<b>What?</b>
That’s right, you heard me. A HARRY POTTER BOOK CLUB in which we read all 7 books and discuss anything from Ron’s favorite ice cream to the SRS SHIT that goes down in the final chapter. And the stupid epilogue.
But if you haven’t already read all 7, that’s okay! We’ll start right from the beginning and tread on spoilers carefully. If need be we will, as Floria put it, “break off into an Advanced Group” to discuss all 7 as we go along.
<b>Why?</b>
Because we are serious nerds and need to discuss these serious things with other serious nerds.
<b>When&Where?</b>
Tentitively we have Border’s on State st Wednesday after 5.30. Other ideas are Harold Washington Libray, or Fridays after 3. But this is all up for discussion, we will do what we must!

Damn was that shit emotional.
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those movies that you can watch over and over and never, ever get bored. True, it may be 2 AM and my emotions are probably haywire, but fuck was that shit emotional.
What always kills me about this movie, though, is Bob Ewell. I don’t know about you, but I live in a big city and my everyday life is very diverse. In the back of my mind, I know racism exists. I do see it often, but it is never to the extreme that it is in this movie. And when I see characters like Bob Ewell on screen, it sends shivers down my back to know that people like him not only exist, but thrive.
It scares me to know that people believe so deeply in hurting one another over something as natural as skin color. It scares me so deeply that when I think about my future, I hesitate to include children. How can I possibly bring more life into this hate-ridden world?
But Atticus brings an entirely new emotion to the subject. Every time he speaks or acts I let out a breath that I didn’t realize I had been holding, unclench a fist I hadn’t realized I made. In the beginning when little Scout says brash and harsh things, I can’t believe a child could think such a thing, and I wonder how in the world I would react if that were my child. How could I swiftly and forever change her mind so this never happens again?
I’m on the verge of thinking there’s no solution when Atticus steps in, calmly explains, and quells any fears I or Scout have. Every time I watch this movie, Atticus gives me new hope that through the right upbringing and teaching, we can step-by-step raise our kids out of racism forever. And maybe one day, this essay could start off completely different: “I can’t believe men like Bob Ewell used to exist.”
ANYWAY let’s hope this is a page long double-spaced. with a different intro of course, lol.
