I knew from getting James Marsters to sign Pat’s calendar yesterday that he was a bit of Trek geek. Today I found out just how much. He went to the very first ever Trek Convention in 1978. He dressed up and made his own costume.
He had his blue science shirt, Vulcan ears that a friend had made and his own hand made phaser that he still has to this day. His Spock costume was topped off by a blond afro!
His most vivid memory of the convention was lining up to get Leonard Nimoy’s autograph, but when he got to the front of the line, Leonard had left. He has since met Leonard and said that he is the loveliest man but it impacted on him that he will stay around and make sure everyone gets their photo or autograph as he does not want to be “that guy” who leaves a fan waiting.”
